The University hostels provide dining facilities in nine Messes spread across the campus.
Separate dining halls are available for both male and female boarders.
Each Mess facility is endowed with a fully-equipped kitchen with capacities to prepare and provide food to 200-400 students in one go. A few Mess facilities are also equipped with equipment to prepare chapatis.
Hostel Messes are run by the student Mess Secretaries of the respective hostel under general supervision of a Mess Supervisor and under the guidance of the Hostel Wardens. Mess Secretaries are elected by the respective Hostel every month. The Mess Secretary is in-charge of overseeing the preparation of items on Menu and their quality, and co-ordinates with the Mess Supervisor and Hostel Warden in ensuring that good quality food is provided at the best possible rates. Special items and monthly feasts are also the responsbility of the Mess Secretary, who is normally authorised to work with a Mess Montoring Committee.
A basic price is arrived at, each month based on the materials purchased and consumed in the hostel. Boarders agree to the basic price and pay the mess dues. Any dispute on the basic price is resolved at a general body meeting of the mess.
A North Indian Mess is functioning in Men’s Hostel-D and in the Ladies’ Hostel Complex.
